Dean Borud, a plant manager with a company that produces crushed stone, was getting tired of the hassles that came with so many of the electrical contractors he had used for various projects.
"I was looking for another solution," says Borud, who oversees a plant in Cumming, Georgia, that was bought out this summer by Lafarge Corporation - a world leader in building materials. "Our previous contractors were not delivering what we needed... that's a very safe statement."
Borud grew more apprehensive when it came time for his company to build a new processing plant, a $6 million project with $1 million worth of electrical work alone. If the plant didn't get built to perfection, the company wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand for its products that construction companies use make various materials.
Then he found Tibs, and his discomfort vanished.
"We needed a company that could deliver at a reasonable rate a full range of electrical contracting services so that we could fulfill our capital project work needs," Borud says. "Tibs helped us design solutions for our problems and it very quickly proved that we would have a good working relationship with them. They always resolve any issue that comes up."
In the case of the new plant, one of the most difficult challenges Borud faced was how to install a new service point that would allow electricity to enter the building without taking up so much space that it reduced the plant's functionality.
"Tibs came up with a way of constructing the service point so that it didn't limit our physical access to the area it was in," Borud recalls. "A lack of access would have increased the opportunity for a major accident to be caused by a piece of equipment hitting the service point."
Tibs performed so well that Borud continues to rely on the company's services for many other projects.
"I'm overwhelmingly satisfied with Tibs," he says. "We've received nothing but excellent service from them."
One of the keys to the working relationship, Borud ads, is Tibs' commitment to making sure it understands what Lafarge needs. Tibs also excels at communicating with Lafarge so that Borud doesn't have to worry about whether or how a job is going to get done.
"Quality of work and communication go hand in hand," Borud says. "The communication shows that Tibs understands what the customer wants and that it can fill the need."
The highest compliment Borud can pay, however, is one that Tibs heard from another source: Borud has been so impressed with the service he received that he brought the company another client.
"When you can recommend a contractor to a company run by a friend of yours, you know you're getting great service," Borud says.
