John Welch, who heads up Tibs’ Critical Power Group (CPG), is recognized as one of the Southeast’s leading industry experts in critical power and energy systems.
John’s engineering and construction expertise includes power backup systems for mission critical applications in government and business facilities, data centers and healthcare facilities.
He also has extensive experience and knowledge in UPS maintenance and service, arc flash studies and process control, circuit breaker testing, thermography, grounding and renewable green energy projects. He is also the author of the informative, well read blog, http://arcstopping.typepad.com/
John joined Tibs in early 2007 to launch the company’s CPG, one of the first-of-its-kind teams in the Southeast. Under his direction, the CPG provides the engineering, installation, critical support, and preventive maintenance programs that Tibs’ clients need to stay up and running 24/7.
Since becoming part of Tibs, John has worked on a number of critical power projects including large data center expansion efforts for Equinix and Verio corporations and the delivery of critical power services for Federal government clients such as the Department of Defense.
Prior to joining the company, John was was Technical Product Manager with I Power Energy Systems, a start-up company, where he launched a number of green initiatives including using low BTU gas from dairy farms, waste water treatment plants and the most recently, a Landfill at South Side landfill in Indianapolis, IN. Before that, he worked for DTE Energy Technologies in Michigan as the Engines Program Manager and was accountable for meeting a target of 2007 CARB emission compliance.
The author of several articles and papers on critical power and sustainable energy, John has a M.S. degree in industrial operations from Lawrence Technological University and a B.S. in electronic engineering from DeVry Technological University. He also holds a journeyman electrician’s license and is certified in gas engine technology.
