For Immediate Release Tibs named semi-finalist for Georgia Family Business of the Year AwardATLANTA, March 27, 2003 -- Tibs Group, a 32-year-old family owned and operated electrical services and technology solutions company in Suwanee, Ga., has been selected as a semi-finalist for the Georgia Family Business of the Year Award. Tibs’ selection as a semi-finalist was based on the company’s proven business success, contributions to industry and community, and multi-generational family business involvement. Initiated in 1991, the annual award, presented by the Cox Family Enterprise Center at Kennesaw State University, honors the crucial role that family businesses play in Georgia’s economy and society. Honorees will receive their awards May 20, at the Georgia Family Business of the Year Awards dinner at the Cobb Galleria. Tibs Group was founded in 1971 by Marvin Tibbetts, who grew the company from a three person operation into a multi-million dollar business. When he retired in 1996, a second generation of Tibbetts took over when Marvin’s sons Mark and Todd began running the company on a day-to-day basis. Today, the Tibs Group has more than 1000 customers including companies such as Gwinnett County School Systems, Gwinnett Civic Center, BellSouth, the Bank of America, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Chick-fil-A, ADP, SAFECO Insurance, Lucent Technologies, and Delta Airlines.
