Normally,
providing that many generators takes five weeks,
but New York needed those generators in days, not
weeks, so the Tibs Group tripled the size of its
work crew and worked around the clock.
"Our staff
left their families at a very difficult time,
worked all hours of the night and completed the
work with a great attitude," said Tibs CEO
Mark Tibbetts. "For us, being part of this
assignment was an honor and a chance to experience
what this country is really made of. It's all
about people!"
This company-wide
spirit is representative of the family environment
and culture that is Tibs Group, the 31-year-old
electrical service, technology and utility company
based in Suwanee. Leading that company is Mark
Tibbetts, one of five finalists in this year's
Small Business Person of the Year Awards.
Tibbetts, who has
served as CEO since 1996, began his career at Tibs
Group when he was just a young teenager, working
in the family's electrical service business as
an electrical apprentice. Spending his high school
and college breaks at Tibs, he learned the
business from the ground up, working under his
father's (Marvin Tibbetts) key employees on
various assignments.
The 39-year-old
Tibbetts finally joined the company as a full-time
employee in 1985 after graduating from West
Georgia College. As head of the company, Tibbetts
has made sure that Tibs is active in the
community, supporting numerous youth sports teams
each year, conducting onsite blood drives for the
Red Cross, and participating in county and
community charity events including Camp Kudzu.
A member of the
Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, Tibbetts
is also active in the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce
and participates in industry organizations as
well. He was most recently named Member of the
Year by the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC)
Chapter, has served as an IEC board member and was
a member and Registered Communications
Distribution Designer (RCDD) with BICSI
International.
Tibs Group is
called the "single source solution" -
solving today's problems and planning for
tomorrow's challenges. |
