Tibs
provides powerful support to New York City after
terrorist attack
Tibs Group, Inc., a single-source provider of electrical services, power quality and
technology solutions located in Suwanee,
provided
special resources to New York in response to the terrorist attack on September 11.
In conjunction with General Electric, Tibs Group prepared approximately eighty 1.5 megawatt generators that were shipped to New York to provide power for buildings that lost electricity as a result of the event.
According to Mark Tibbetts, CEO of Tibs Group, the impact of the explosions and collapsing of the buildings caused major problems to New York's complex underground electrical system within the immediate and adjoining blocks of the World Trade Center. The generators that Tibs prepared are offering backup power sources for these facilities.
"We at Tibs want to help in some way. We've seen all the tragedy on television and it makes you feel helpless. We took the call around 9:30 a.m. that Tuesday morning from GE asking us to prepare. With this project, we can feel like we are contributing," said Tibbetts of the company's involvement.
The process of decommissioning these generator from electrical substations should typically be a five-week project. By tripling the crew size and working around the clock, Tibs successfully decommissioned the GE generators and prepared them for delivery within just a couple of days. "The generators were not in one location; they were spread out in electrical substations throughout Georgia," said Tibbetts. "Our staff left their families at a very difficult time, worked all hours of the night and completed the work with a great attitude. It is an honor to take part in such a special assignment and experience what this country is really made of. It's all about people!" said Tibbetts.
Founded in 1971 by Marvin Tibbetts, Tibs Group has grown to more than 100 employees and recently expanded its operation to a new building at 3435 Martin Farm Road in Suwanee. For more information on Tibs Group, call 678-546-6400.
