Power goes out before major fundraiser; Tibs' volunteers get facility 'up and running'

Annandale Village thanks Tibs Group for solving  power problems before special 'Cajun' event

ATLANTA, February 10, 2003 -- Imagine cooking a dinner for 1,000 people and the power goes out! That’s what happened last year to Annandale Village, a Suwanee, Ga., private, nonprofit community for adults with developmental disabilities, as they prepared for the annual 2002 Jazzy Cajun Thing, the organization’s major fund raising event.

Pat Brown, Annandale’s executive director, called the Tibs Group, an electrical service and technology company in Suwanee, who came to Annandale’s rescue. Tibs found and fixed the electrical problem that had caused the power to go out in the Annandale kitchen where the food for a thousand was being prepared.

“Jazzy went off without a hitch, with everyone enjoying the event’s legendary spicy Cajun foods. None of the guests knew that just hours before the kitchen was shut down because there was no power,” said Marvin Tibbetts, Tibs Group Chairman of the Board, who coordinated Tibs volunteer efforts for Annandale.

“Tibs saved the day! Without Marvin, Mark and Todd Tibbetts and the Tibs Group, there would not have been an event for the 1,000 people invited,” said Brown. “No other company as large as The Tibs Group could have responded as quickly or cared as much! The words, ‘Thank you,’ are not enough!”

Tibs also supervised installation of the electrical wiring and supplied the portable generator that powered the event, which was held in a large vacant warehouse in Suwanee.   Forty thousand square feet of the warehouse was transformed into a Cajun swamp and Tibs volunteered its services and donated the use of the generator for the event.

To thank Tibs for their volunteer work and for helping make the Jazzy event both successful and possible, Annandale Village presented Tibs Group with an award for their service. Chuck Lotz, Annandale Village Board of Trustee Chair, presented the award January 23 to Tibs at a special reception for volunteers held by Annandale.

Marvin Tibbetts has also been asked to serve on the Jazzy committee for this year’s 10th annual Jazzy Cajun Thing event to be held April 26 in Suwanee.
