For Release: May 9, 2002 Tibs CEO is finalist for Small Business Person of the Year
ATLANTA, May 9, 2002 Tibbetts was one of five Gwinnett business persons named as finalists for the annual award. Selection of the finalists was based on community involvement, response to adversity, innovativeness of a businesss products and services as well as on the growth of a companys revenues and employees, according to the Chamber. Candidates also had to be a member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, be the primary owner or shareholder, and be entrepreneurs. Tibbetts, active in the Gwinnett Chamber, has served as CEO for Tibs since 1996, when he assumed leadership of the family business from his father, Marvin Tibbetts. Since then, the Tibs Group has grown to 100 employees and is recognized as a premier provider of electrical and technology based solutions for the Southeast. With over 1000 customers, the Tibs Group counts among its customers companies such as BellSouth, the B Tibbetts, who began his career at Tibs Group working during school breaks as an electrical apprentice, worked in estimating, engineering, project management and sales management before becoming CEO. Most recently he was named Member of the Year for the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Atlanta Chapter. Active in community and church organizations, he has served as a board member for IEC Atlanta and is a Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) with BICSI International.
